About the Director


Claudia Simionato CONICET Principal Reseacher

Claudia G. Simionato is the Director of CIMA/CONICET-UBA and the IFAECI -joint institute between the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina National Council of Sciences (CONICET), Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS-France) and the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD-France)-.
She is also Professor of the School of Exact and Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and Senior Reseacher (CONICET).

She obtained her Ph.D. in ocean sciences at the University of Buenos Aires, under Prof. Mario N. Nuñez. Her current research interests focus on the study and modeling of processes in coastal regions, with emphasis on the Río de la Plata estuary.

She has authored or co-authored several peer-reviewed scientific journal articles and book chapters, as well as other planning documents and workshop papers. She has been part of several national and international projects, directing some of them.

She has been part of the scientific and/or organizing committee of several meetings. She has developed diverse management activities at the School of Exact and Natural Sciences of the UBA.

She has advised public entities in the frame of her research. In this sense, it is remarkable her participation in the international FREPLATA and FREPLATA II projects, where she did not only was responsible for the research conducted at CIMA, but also advised the Foreign Ministry and the Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development.

Currently she is the President of the National Committee of the International Association for the Physical Sciences of the Oceans (IAPSO).
